Locker 56 was created as part of the THRU THE TRAPDOOR exhibition
For Locker 56, We inherited an abandoned locker, a time capsule full of personal artifacts and memorabilia from the 70’s. We excavated this locker that had been infested by rats. Hundreds of objects, magazines, posters, vinyl records, photographs, costumes and decorative items had to be moved, sorted cleaned and curated. The excavation became an obsessive anthropological dig, anything of value was kept and everything contaminated, eaten and pissed on by the rats was disposed. This process was the inspiration for the locker 56 installation. Through this excavation we were able to identify and locate the owner. With his permission we restaged selected objects. What was private became public, the storage locker now presented as a museum vitrine. After the exhibition, all the materials were returned to the owner.
