Measure of Light:
Resulting from our documentation of a vacant post-war house, this project captures moments of transition, the passing of time and traces of human activity.
Using extreme lighting to create dramatic compositions, we consider Late Renaissance and Baroque paintings for their relationship between light and darkness. These paintings, noted for their dramatic scenes set in chiaroscuro, hold connotations of the divine and mortality, alluding to experiences beyond the physical world. Employing chiaroscuro as a stylistic trope to inform domestic subject matter, we mythologize and dramatize the metaphysical aspects of this home.
Merging photography with the formal and allegorical elements of chiaroscuro, Measure of Light explores ideas of change and absence, bringing awareness to our latent relationship to the unknown.
