This was a site-responsive project that incorporated the conventions of the camera obscura along with mechanized equipment to create a live cinema experience. This project was part of a larger exhibition titled THRU THE TRAPDOOR
THRU THE TRAPDOOR was large a warehouse style exhibition that occupied the space of an old storage locker business. We were interested in responding to the architectural features, and history of the space. The experience presented a surreal and ghostly encounter with imagery that served as metaphors for fragility and impermanence. For the creation of this work, DRIL re-purposed a block of lockers to create an entrance corridor, a theater room and the behind the scenes staging area. All objects projected through the obscura were acquired as residual belongings, left behind by patrons of the storage facility.
